Ans: This is the first question asked by interviewer for any interview whether one to one interview, panel interview, telephonic interview or a video online interview.  Or the interviewer may also ask “run me through your resume”.  Through this question the interviewer wants to make you comfortable, as well also want to know a brief about you specially (your skills, background, experience, and qualification)

Normally these questions are asked to set the tone for the interview.  This question also help the candidate to get accustomed with the environment and set general conversation to know better about the candidate.

  • Present your skills relevant to the job position you applied.
  • Explain the job role that excites you
  • Explain how this position matches with your career goals.
  • Your core skill, knowledge must match with your professional goals which must be align with the niche industry or company you are going to give interview.

Tell me your strengths and weaknesses

You must answer this question in a very simple way with clarity.  Through this question the interview wants to know how confident you are in communicating your weakness and strengths, how much you know yourself well and how you describe yourself through your strengths and weaknesses.

(a):- “If the job description requires flexible work timing” then   

Strengths: I am flexible according to the situation to achieve my goals.

Weakness: I am a bit shy to speak but once started I get along well socially.

(b) “if the job description requires night shift and lot of team activity” then

Strength: I am a team player and get involved to solve any problem as a team member.

Weakness: I am listener and an observer, once I get along with the team member to for problem solving then I present my observational ideas which are innovative result oriented.

How did your friends describe about you?

Ans:  before answering this question read the job description carefully and note down the keywords “leadership”, “teamwork” etc. if the company is searching for a candidate with leadership qualities then your answer should be

“My friends describe me as a problem solver, whenever they face any difficult situation, they always approach me to get solutions to their problems.”

Gradually I developed the problem solving skills and how to tackle efficient result in pressure.

What are your hobbies?

Ans. You can tell about your hobbies relating to the position in the company example. Team games, etc.  This is an opportunity to tell the interview about your skills.  You have tell your hobbies in which you are interested and passionate about.  Most of us take this question casually but this is the most important question.  Interviewer may relate your hobbies with the job in the company.

Examples, travelling if you really passionate about travelling, if the interviewer is interested to know more then you share your recent travels and why you like to travel.

Reading books: what makes you passionate to read books, books that you have read recently, what type of books, fiction books, horrors story books, self improvement books, elaborate your answer to the interviewer.

How will you define your goals (long term and short terms goals)

What do you do in your free time?

This questions is relevant to your hobbies, your passion.  Tell about your hobbies or other skills like graphic design, drawing, sketching, reading books, etc.

How will you define your creativity?

Ans: creativity is how you get ideas, thoughts, the way you communicate your thought, ideas and present your point of view to solve problems,  mostly companies want to hire appropriate candidate who is capable of creating new ideas.  Due to the competitive nature of market each company wants to be on the first page of google.  So they want to hire those candidates who are better is creating new ideas in problem solving.

What was your toughest decision you had taken in the past and why?

Ans. Through this question the interviewer wants to know your decision making ability.  To answer this question I request you to imagine as if your in an interview and the interviewer asks you the above question.

Example :- Now you may answer this question “I’m a practical person, goal is to become an engineer in an Automobile company, so accordingly, I selected automobile engineering as a major subject.  During my internship I was give the responsibility to reduce cost per piee
